A: Mini-implants are a new development in dental implant technology and are designed for stabilizing dentures and retaining complete or partial dentures. They are essentially small titanium screws placed into the jaw bone which extend through the gums. They are smaller in diameter than standard sized implants (less than 2mm vs. 4-5mm).
Many denture wearers find that their dentures do not provide sufficient stability or proper comfort when chewing or even speaking. Our mouth and smile affects our looks and self confidence. Having a sore mouth, loose teeth or being without teeth can affect many aspects of our lives that we take for granted. It can take the enjoyment out of a good meal. A healthy mouth plays an important role in how we communicate and can greatly influence our smile and laughter. The denture snaps directly onto these with small attachments thereby preventing the denture from moving around providing much more confidence for denture wearers. Since the denture is held snuggly against the gums less food tends to get caught under the denture and the problem of sore spots is also reduced since the denture can’t move around causing these problems.
Placement of these is simple requiring only local anesthetic and takes only a few minutes. Because of their narrow diameter they can be placed in people with very narrow ridges without requiring complex and expensive bone grafting procedures sometimes needed for standard implants. Moreover because of the simplicity of their design and procedures they are a fraction of the cost of standard implants.
If you, a family member or someone you know struggles with their dentures (it’s usually the lower one people curse) have them call for a free consultation with us. This may be a cost effective solution to those problems and a reason to smile again.
Enjoy your smile…everyone else does!
